Why Good Creative Leadership Is Mostly About Creating Space

Why Good Creative Leadership Is Mostly About Creating Space

Creative people need direction.

They also need room.

Too much freedom creates confusion.

They also need room.

Too much control kills ownership.

Good creative leadership sits somewhere between the two.

The leader creates the frame.

What are we solving?
What matters?
What cannot change?
Where can we explore?

Then the team gets space to work.

This is harder than giving answers because it requires trust.

You have to allow people to arrive at solutions differently from how you would.

You also have to accept that their answer may be better.

A healthy creative team is not one where everyone thinks like the leader.

It is one where people feel safe enough to think.

Leadership is therefore not just about improving the work.

It is about improving the conditions in which the work happens.

Give people clarity.

Then give them room.
